I saw a show in Las Vegas by myself...

Jan 26, 2024

I wouldn’t know anyone.  What would people think seeing me as a solo attendee?

Would they assume I just didn't have any friends?

I decided to embrace my discomfort and start ASKING QUESTIONS to strangers at the event.

I asked... my seatmates who were strangers… “Are you excited to see this performance?”

I learned that they were celebrating their wedding anniversary, he was former military, now doing marketing, and she is all about positive intentions, manifestations, and gratitude stones.  (Yes, I gave her one).  Now, I have new friends from Houston, Texas and they already emailed me to share they watched my TEDx Talk (and appreciated it).

I asked “Does your Subaru go well in bad weather?”

I learned… My Uber driver grew up in Sri Lanka, served in the US Navy, and recommended 3 books for me to read and a possible introduction to a new podcast guest.

When checking into the PARK MGM Resort:

I asked “How long have you worked here?”

I learned that my seat for the Cirque Show was ideal, if I was closer I may get splashed, and that Kinesha has great loyalty to her company because “she loves the people and they treat her well.”  She grew up in New York.  She gave me a sample of their honey-roasted nuts as she knew I just got off of a long flight.  I learned that Harold, upon arriving, insisted to treat me like royalty.  Even though I didn’t need luggage assistance, his passion toward helping me was off the charts.  He has been at the hotel for over 20 years and loves the people.

At Best Friend (restaurant at the resort):

I asked” tell me about the history behind the name of this restaurant?”

I learned Celebrity Chef Roy Choi was at the restaurant that night as he continuously evaluates and enhanced the experience by visiting from Los Angeles.  He volunteers and gives back to local communities.  One of the servers offered to introduce me.  He was the nicest person and an incredible human being (another potential guest for my show).  I learned that Robert and Israel had worked in other venues and enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe of their current place the best.

I asked... “What time did you have to start” as I was looking for coffee at 4 am PST.

I learned the sense of community in hospitality and other companies can be a huge driver with employee engagement.

The employee started work very early but enjoyed every moment because of the team she surrounded herself with… they had the common goal to “serve guests” and were able to do it in a fun manner.

Casino workers were swaying to the music when not helping clients.  People were smiling.  Guests were winning money. I WON BIG MONEY (see photo below)!

ASK and LEARN

I learned… GO OUTSIDE OF YOUR CIRCLE OF COMFORT, talk to others, learn, live life, and have a BLAST  in this world!

Thank you, Vegas and to my friends at Bellagio and Park MGM!  Keep DOING Great Things!
