Some of the most successful business people use a tool called "Time Boxing".  Jerry Seinfeld, Elon Musk, Oprah Winfrey, and Bill Gates all use this tool.  See the video explanation above for a 1 minute summary.

A recent study shows that out of the top 100 PRODUCTIVITY TOOLS that exist, "Time Boxing" was rated #1.

Essentially, it is a technique that encourages you to set a specific amount of time for a particular task or activity.  It also requires you to place "personal" and "professional" tasks into your calendar to ensure a balance of "work and play". This helps you to break down complex tasks into smaller, more manageable pieces to work on them in an extremely focused manner.

There are other unconventional approaches that "Most People Don't" use.  Some of my favorites, with an easy acronym toe help you remember are below:

SPROUTS- Growing into Greater Time Productivity

S - Sprint work- avoid working for long periods.  Take a break, walk around, get outside. Allow your body to re-energize itself and your mind for more effectiveness.

P - Practice Time Boxing- your work may expand to fill the time available.  Set deadlines for these tasks by scheduling them for work and for fun.

R - Rule of 80/20- the majority of your results will come from 20% of your effort.  Focus on the most critical tasks (consider IMPORTANT over URGENT).

O - Outsource non-core tasks- delegate or hire someone to assist with tasks that can be done by someone else.  Allow time to focus on items that you are uniquely skilled to complete.

U - Use templates- create systems that will allow you to save time and reduce errors for commonly required tasks.

T - Take naps- if possible, shut your eyes to rejuvenate.  Studies show that short naps can improve cognitive function and productivity.

S - Standing meetings- create the environment in which ideas and updates are shared while standing.  This reduces the time spent in meetings.  Ritz-Carlton continues to have daily "line-ups or stand-ups" to identify the team goals and priorities for the day.
